About the food on Phuket Island
The fresh seafood from the Andaman Sea influences Thai food on Phuket. Seafood served southern style is unique, likely to be barbecued, and employs numerous herbs and spices, garlic, lemon grass, chilies, mint, cumin, basil, coriander, and shrimp paste.

Thais love to eat, and you will rarely be more than five minutes from a place serving food. The most common Thai eating-place is a roadside food stall. A local Thai will have a favorite hawker food stall for just about every different type of Thai food. By western standards some food stalls may look a little shabby, but a visitor with a little sense of adventure will discover some of the tastiest and most inexpensive food ever eaten. It's rather easy to locate a good food stall. Watch where the Thais eat and join them!
Vocabulary:
Gin kao. (To eat)
Hiu kao mai? (Are you hungry?)
Gin kao mai? (Do you want to eat?)
Him laeu! (I'm full)

Restaurants in Patong
Half the pleasure of Thailand is the food. Don't be afraid to try the local dishes but beware of the small red and green chilli peppers. Avoid the big tourist restaurants and try the small restaurants instead. Not all Thai food is spicy, but if you like it hot, you won't be disappointed! When going out for a Thai meal, you will get a plate of rice and you normally order a few different dishes to share with your friends. You eat with a spoon and fork. No knife is needed.
In tourist areas like Patong you will also find food from all over the world, as there are many restaurants run by foreigners. Yes, you can even eat at McDonalds's, but why should you?
Food, ice and water are safe but avoid drinking tap water. Even the food from street vendors is safe as long as you only order food that is fried or grilled and then served immediately.
In Patong you have a choice of several very popular "Gay" restaurants like Lair Lay Tong and Sea Hag in Soi Wattana near the beach or Connect, Bingo, Flying Handbag and Koh Joy in the Paradise Complex area.
